DK’s father trained Karthik hard at a young age and helped his reflexes to be strong. He used to throw the leather balls to DK at a very high speed. DK learned wicket keeping first and then batting from his father.

DK played his maiden first-class cricket as a wicketkeeper for Tamil Nadu versus Baroda game in late 2002.
