History of Dream11

Founded by Harsh Jain and Bhavit Sheth, Dream11 is a fantasy sports app headquartered in Mumbai.

The app was founded way back in 2008 when the concept of fantasy sports was unknown to the general public of India.

In its early days, Dream11 was set up like American fantasy football leagues. Users had to create season-long teams to out win the competition.

However, that model failed to grab eyeballs in India. Since then, Dream11 moved to a daily fantasy competition in 2012.

History of My 11 Circle

Founded by New York University alumni Trivikraman Thampy and Bhavin Pandya in January 2019, My 11 Circle is a fantasy sports app headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

1. Number of Users

Let’s see which app has more current users- Dream11 or My 11 Circle:

Dream11 Total Users

According to data, Dream11 currently boasts over 100 million (or 10 crores) users! It’s currently leading the fantasy sports market in India with the highest number of active users.

My 11 Circle Total Users

Since My 11 Circle is quite a new platform as compared to Dream11, it still managed to procure a whopping 1.3 Crore users in India.

The credit to its popularity should be given to the massive ad campaign they did during the IPL 2019 season.

Another reason for their success is partnering up with the current BCCI president and former Indian cricketer, Saurav Ganguly.

? The Verdict:

As the numbers clearly suggest, Dream11 is definitely ahead of the competition when it comes to its user base.

With almost 10 times the users of My 11 Circle, Dream11 beats My 11 Circle fair and square.

Since Dream11 has more users, it naturally becomes a more “safer” app to a newbie who is just starting out in the world of fantasy sports.

However, more users don’t always mean that Dream11 should be your preferred choice of fantasy app.

Since My 11 Circle has fewer users than Dream11, it typically has less competition too. The lesser the competition, the more are your chances of winning!

Our pick in this category for Dream11 vs My 11 Circle goes to My 11 Circle.

2. User Interface

Next up, let’s discuss which of these apps- Dream11 or My 11 Circle- has a better user interface.

Dream11 user interface

Dream11 has a pretty clean user interface. For a new user, it’s not at all intimidating.

Dream11 app interface

The top section comprises the various sports Dream11 offers- Cricket, Football, Basketball, Baseball, and more.

On the home screen, you are presented with a list of “upcoming matches”.

In the bottom panel, you can see:

  • Current matches or those you have played in the past,
  • winner section where you can check winners of all matches,
  • chat section that allows you to create a group with your friends and chat.
  • feed section that brings all the latest posts from people you follow on Dream11.

All in all, the app has a clean interface that is welcoming to a new player.

My 11 Circle user interface

My 11 Circle, on the other hand, has an overwhelming user interface. On top there’s an ad, then a panel for choosing cricket or football, then a bar showing ‘upcoming’, ‘live’, and ‘completed’ matches.

Dream11 vs My11Circle

For a new user, navigating through the app and knowing where to go next can be a bit challenging.

The bottom tab has 5 options:

  • Home: where all the current and upcoming matches are shown
  • League: which shows you how to play mega contests. This section is highly confusing.
  • Refer & earn: this showcases the refer and earn program of My 11 Circle where users can refer the app to their friends and earn a cash bonus.
  • Promotions: this section tells you to join My 11 Circle on Telegram.
  • More: this brings up the menu that has your account details, withdrawals, help and support, and more.

? The Verdict:

According to us, Dream11 has a much cleaner user interface as compared to My 11 Circle and is easier to use.

Our pick in this category for Dream11 vs My 11 Circle goes to Dream11

Let’s move on and compare what these apps have to offer in terms of features:

Dream11 App Features

Dream11 has the following features:

  • Dream11 supports 6 fantasy sports– Cricket, Football, Basketball, Baseball, Handball, and Hockey.
  • A winner section to see who has won past contests. You can use this section to see winning teams and make your teams accordingly.
  • Refer and earn bonus= Earn 10% (up to Rs 200) of your friend’s added amount that they spend to join a contest.
  • chat section allows you to create a group with your friends and chat with them about the game. This makes the fantasy experience much better and social.
  • Dream11 also has a feed where you can follow fellow fantasy players, build your own fan following, and engage with the Dream11 community.

My11Circle App Features

My 11 Circle has the following features:

  • My11Circle only has 2 two sports– cricket and football
  • There’s no feed or chat option like in Dream11
  • Refer and earn bonus= Rs.51 instant bonus, up to Rs. 551 winnings, bigger than Dream11
  • Telegram group for exclusive discounts and coupon codes.
  • Switch to their Rummy app directly from My 11 Circle.

? The Verdict:

Dream11 outshines My11Circle in terms of features. Moreover, the number of sports offered by Dream11 is 3 times the number offered by My11Circle (only cricket and football available).

However, you can earn a considerably higher referral bonus in My 11 Circle than in Dream11.

Our pick in this category for Dream11 or My 11 Circle goes to Dream11.

The point system in both apps is quite similar.

  • My 11 Circle offers 0.5 points per run.

  • Check out the detailed point system here.

In both the fantasy apps, the point system changes based on the format you are playing, ie. Test, ODI, T20, or T10.

? The Verdict:

Both apps have a similar scoring system. However, Dream11 does offer more for a wicket than My11Circle.

If you are someone who likes to pick bowlers more in your team instead of batsmen, go with Dream11.

Our pick in this category for Dream11 vs My 11 Circle is a tie.

4. Type of Contests

Both Dream11 and My11Circle have various types of contests that fantasy players can participate in.

Types of contests in Dream11

Fantasy players can play three types of contests in the Dream11 app: Practice, Cash, and Private contests.

  • Practice contests are those which are free to join but also don’t have any cash prizes
  • Cash contests are paid contests that give cash prizes to winners
  • Private contests are those you can create and play amongst your friends.

Types of contests in My 11 Circle

My11Circle app also has Practice, Cash, and Private contests. Apart from them, My 11 Circle also offers “beat the expert” contest during IPL and other major tournaments.

Dream11 vs My 11 Circle

? The Verdict:

Both Dream11 and My11Circle offer Practice, Cash, and Private contests. However, My 11 Circle also has contests like ‘beat the expert’ and offers more prizes (speakers, smartphones, etc) than Dream11.

Our pick in this category for Dream11 vs My 11 Circle is a My 11 Circle.

5. Team Composition

Team composition determines how many wicketkeepers, batsmen, bowlers, and all-rounders you can add to your fantasy teams.

Different platforms have different rules regarding this.

Dream11 Team Composition:

  • Wicketkeepers: You can select up to four wicketkeepers in your Dream11 team.
  • Batsmen: You can select 3-6 batsmen in your Dream 11 squad.
  • All-rounders: In Dream11, you can select 1-4 all-rounders.
  • Bowlers: In Dream11, you can select 3-6 bowlers

My 11 Circle Team Composition

  • Wicketkeepers: You can select up to four wicketkeepers in your My 11 Circle team
  • Batsmen: You can pick 1-6 batsmen in your team.
  • All-rounders: In My 11 Circle, you can select anywhere from 1 to 6 all-rounders.
  • Bowlers: You can select 3-6 bowlers.

? The Verdict

Depending upon your style of playing, you can pick any of these two apps as they both offer comparable team composition and flexibility in choosing your team.

However, My 11 Circle has a slight edge here.

Our pick in this category for Dream11 or My 11 Circle is a My 11 Circle.

Dream11 vs My 11 Circle: Final Verdict

As you can see, both Dream11 and My11Circle are similar in their functionality and features.

However, My 11 Circle scored 3 points in our review above while Dream11 scored 2 (and 1 was a tie).

My 11 Circle has a slight edge over Dream11 as it’s newer and is trying hard to offer more to its users than Dream11.

Having said that, more people in India play fantasy sports on Dream11 and is the go-to choice of top fantasy players.

Eventually, it boils down to your personal choice. We would recommend you try out both the apps and make your judgment, or better, play on both!
