Dhoni is a fan of Australian star Adam Gilchrist and Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar. A Bollywood fanatic, Dhoni enjoys the work of actor Amitabh Bachchan and singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Dhoni wanted to become a goalkeeper during his school days and even played as a keeper for his school team. However, his coach thought his keeping skills could be better utilised in cricket.
MS Dhoni Career
Since his school football coach sent Dhoni to play cricket for a local cricket club, his life changed dramatically.
Dhoni’s excellent wicketkeeping skills made him a regular wicketkeeper at the Commando Cricket Club (1995–1998).
In 1998, when Mahi was in 12th grade, he was selected by Deval Sahay, a former Bihar Cricket Association Vice President and Ranchi District Cricket President, to play for the Central Coal Fields Limited (CCL) team.
While playing in the CCL, Deval Sahay used to give him Rs 50 for each six that he hit in Sheesh Mahal tournament cricket matches!
Domestic Career
In 1999, MS made his Ranji debut for Bihar at just the age of 18. Dhoni announced his arrival with a bang, hitting 68* on debut against Assam. He finished the season with 283 runs in 5 matches.
While playing domestic cricket, Dhoni was not able to make ends meet as the salary of domestic cricketers was not that much at that time.
Hence, he served as a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) at Kharagpur railway station from 2001 to 2003, a job that he got with the sports quota.
Dhoni was part of the East Zone squad that won the Deodhar Trophy 2003–2004 season. He scored 244 runs in 4 matches, including a century against the Central zone.

Since Dhoni belonged to a small town, his talent was going unnoticed by selectors. However, he was finally discovered via the BCCI’s small-town talent-spotting initiative TRDW (Talent Resource Development Wing).
Prakash Poddar, captain of Bengal in the 1960s and part of the TRDW spotted Dhoni’s potential after watching him play for Jharkhand Jamshedpur in 2003.
He immediately sent a report to the NCA (National Cricket Academy) and was eventually picked for India A squad for a tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya. Dhoni performed well in India A matches and was picked in the ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour of 2004-05.
International Career
Dhoni made his ODI debut on 23 December 2004 v Bangladesh. He didn’t have a great start to his international career and was out on duck after getting run-out.
However, selectors showed faith in his abilities and Dhoni was selected in the Indian team for their series against Pakistan in 2005.
In the 2nd ODI of the series, Dhoni in his career’s 5th ODI made a blistering 148 in Visakhapatnam off only 123 deliveries. It was the highest score by an Indian wicket-keeper at that time.
Later that year, Dhoni was promoted to number 3 against Sri Lanka and made a record-breaking 183* off 145 balls, helping India chase down a target of 299.
Dhoni’s 183 was the highest individual score in ODI cricket in the second innings, a record that was broken by Australian all-rounder Shane Watson seen years later.
After a string of good performances, Dhoni took the captaincy from Rahul Dravid in 2007. He was also made the captain of the Indian side in the inaugural World Twenty20 tournament in September 2007.
His brilliant captaincy saw India lift the trophy, beating Pakistan in a nail-biting final.
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India won the 2011 World Cup and later won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. With this achievement, Mahi became the first and the only captain in international cricket to claim all ICC trophies.

Great recipe! I made this the other night and my husband loved it! Next time I am putting two wontons per layer as we both like a little more “noodle” per lasagna. These make the best leftovers. Pop one in a container and bring it into work the next day.
These look so cute and yummy! Are the edges crunchy or chewy?
