Tim David was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL Mega Auctions (2022) for a whopping INR 8.25 crore or $1.1 Million. This is the highest amount Mumbai Indians have ever paid for an overseas player.

After seeing his success in T20 around the globe, Tim was approached by the RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) for the UAE leg of the 2021 IPL season as a replacement for Finn Allen.

Tim has previously registered his name for the IPL auction 2021 at a base price of Rs. 20 lakhs. Yet, no team was interested in purchasing him and he went unsold during the auction.

When RCB roped him as a replacement, David became the first Singaporean cricketer ever to play in the IPL!

Timothy Hays David, better known as Tim David, was born in Singapore. Son of a former cricketer, his father Rod David also played for Singapore, at the 1997 ICC Trophy.

Tim’s family moved to Singapore from Australia in the 1990s where his dad worked as an engineer. They ended up living in Singapore for 7 years.

However, due to the 1997 Asian financial crisis, his family moved back to Australia when he was two years old and he ended up growing up in Perth.

Tim’s been playing junior cricket since he was 3 years old and has spent his childhood playing cricket in Perth. He credits his dad for fueling his passion for cricket.

Just like his dad, he eventually started playing cricket for Singapore and made his T20I debut for Singapore against Qatar in 2019.

“I would like a good career in professional cricket,” he says. “I want to be a full-time cricketer in Australia across the three formats but also keep playing for Singapore. “That’s a pretty good life I reckon.” – Tim David via Forbes

Since Singapore has spin-friendly pitches, David is growing proficient in playing spin bowling, making him an ideal candidate to play in the IPL.

However, David has shown interest in representing Australia at one point and he’s working hard to achieve his dream!
